Hey everyone,
I've already made a post about going to Africa this summer with Operation Crossroads Africa. My problem is I can't decide on which country in Africa I'd like to go. Deadlines are Feb1st, so I have to decide really soon!
My top 4 choices are Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda and possibly Niger.
I've already spent a few months in Benin and Ghana so I'd like to try an area away from West Africa.
If any of you have been to any of these countries or would recommend a completely different country feel free to give any input whatsoever.

Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

I've been to Namibia, Malawi, and Rwanda and enjoyed all three. I loved Namibia for its landscapes, Malawi for its lake, and Rwanda for its gorillas. Those aren't necesarily things you would be exposed to on a volunteer project though. I think what you see will probably depend more on the work you are doing than on the country you go to. I am sure that you will have a great time where ever you go.

Sorry if this wasn't that useful, but have great time!

Hey,
Thanks a lot for the reply. I put Malawi on my application as my #1 choice, but it all depends on how many other people apply to go there anyway. So my 5 final choices were Malawi, Namibia, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Niger. Niger seems pretty out of place, I know, but it really interests me, and afterward I could do a little roadtrip back to Benin...haha.
It is a volunteer project but the last week is spent touring the country, and I'm hoping (if I can save enough before hand) to stay for 2 or 3 weeks afterwards and tour some more on my own. If I end up in Malawi I'd love to take a trip over to Zambia and do some of their national parks. Has anyone ever done this? Anyone know if there's a Zambian embassy in Malawi...there must be! Or is it easier to get a visa at the border...
Thanks
Ben

I actually went over to Zambia from Malawi and it was quite easy. If you arrange it with a tour operater or safari camp ahead of time, they should be able to get a visa waiver for you so that you don't pay visa fees. They may need a couple weeks to do this, however.

I visited South Luangua and stayed at Flatdogs Camp and had an absolutely awesome time. (The elephants come right into the camp...)

Let me know if you have any questions,
Jillian

Namibia is one of the most incredibly beautiful places I have ever seen. Superceded only by Zimbabwe...
