I am currently planning a trip to climb Kilimanjaro I have heard numerous people say they have taken buses to save on money. Is this safe? Anyone with any information I would be greatful to hear it.

you mean bussing around town? taxis are pretty cheap around those areas... the only thing that might cost a lot is if you land in kilimanjaro airport and need to get to either arusha or moshi. within moshi, a taxi ride didn't cost more than a couple $. a friend of mine was in tanzania as part of her rtw trip, and she opted to bus the longer distances in the less touristy parts. she would pay extra to ensure she'd have a seat, but by the time the bus got to her stop, it would be so full that sometimes she'd be forced to stand for 14hrs.

I would also need to know more clearly which buses you mean, however my overall bus experience in East Africa in general was a good one. It should be noted however that you ought to take extra care in the vicinity of bus stations. Also, my camera was stolen on the daladala from Arusha to Moshi. So, just be careful. At no time did I feel particularly unsafe though. And btw, I found that the police in Moshi are terribly kind.

Generaly there are so many busses opertating in East Africa, There are budget busses this are those cummuting for the public, there are those luxury busses which are conciderable high and the last category of the buss service is the Shuttle class.

You need to book in advance the shuttle and the Luxury busses but you dont need to book the public busses
Thanks
