British Airways flies non-stop to Dar es Salaam. I don't know about cheap though...
I looked up 2 random dates in December and it looks like £822.20 ________________________________ When the son of the diposed King of Nigeria emails you DIRECTLY asking for help, you help. The Misadventures of Joey | My FLICKR pics |

london and dar es salaam (nairobi's even bigger, if you want to fly to kenya) are two major cities so you'll find a lot of flights. main airlines to look into: british airways (like joey mentioned), northwest/klm, kenya air. any search for flights on websites that search multiple airlines for you will tell you who flies there. joey's price sounds about right for that time of the year.

Depending on WHERE in Tanzania you want to start, Dar es Salaam may be too far out of the way. Dar is good for Southern Tanzania or a good jump-off point for Zanzibar. However, if you want the Northern Circuit Tanzania, you'd be much better off flying into Kilimanjaro. KLM has non-stop flights, but only from Amsterdam. From London, Kenya Airways is your best bet via Nairobi. They code-share with Precision Air, who operates the flights between Nairobi and Kilimanjaro. The add-on fare to an international Kenya Airways flight is much less than a stand-alone ticket. Alternatively, you can take a 5-hour shuttle bus from Nairobi to Arusha, but then you have to pay the Kenya visa fee, where if you only connect flights in Nairobi, you don't. The flight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro is only 50 min., but the ride from the airport to Arusha is another 45 - 60 min. bus ride, depending on traffic. - Unfortunately, all carriers start their high season Christmas fares on Dec. 1.
Alert: If you do go via Nairobi, even just changing planes at the airport, you will need a certificate for yellow fever vaccination for entering Tanzania, or you'll pay $50 and be vaccinated on the spot. If you're flying from Europe directly to Tanzania, the yellow fever certificate is NOT required. |

After thought: Also check out Emirates. They fly into Dar and Nairobi (via Dubai), and often offer good fares, even though you'll be backtracking a bit.

you're pretty much gonna have to transfer somewhere. Most major carriers fly to Nairobi and/or Dar. Start with a site like www.kayak.com
