Dear Bootsnall readers,

I am curious about travelers experiences with NGO employees while visiting Africa. I have traveled throughout southern Africa and I have very mixed feelings on the NGO workers there. Some of them are the most wonderful people I have ever met traveling. They great you with a warm smile, a shared language, and a cold beer. They are honestly working to affect a positive change. There are others, however, who seem to be more concerned with the state of their white SUV then the poor they purport to help. Do Bono and Jeffery Sachs bring more assistance with all the attention they require when visiting Africa? What have your experiences been with NGO workers? Are they a positive force on the dusty road or just a pain in the neck?
