Hi to everybody!!
I'm trying to figure out how it's possible to call from europe to Brazil.. The country's code is 0055 and i have the 8-digit mobile number but this is not enough.. after searching in internet i found the extra numbers that needed by the states if u want to call at a fixed phone but nothing for mobiles.. i also know that it's impossible to send a sms cos the networks are not supporting it.. Is that counts for calling to a mobile too? and if it's not then how we can make it?! S |

Try using the 2 digit state code from where the sim card was purchased. I know this works if the mobile is in the same state. I've never tried calling when the mobile is outside of it's "home" state.

That was the money question when I sent out my SA number to people in America. Your best bet is to have the owner of the SIM/phone contact the SIM company's customer service (better yet, a bilingual hostel desk clerk) and ask them. I've had 9s and 0s added, just a strange, confusing process.
I have also found that logging into Skype and going through the "Add Contact" process clears things up in terms of numbers. Just click on Brazil, then enter the 8-digit number you have, and see what happens. Skype seems to know when to take out and add numbers. I probably wasn't clear enough above. I call mobile phones in Brazil from the US dozens of times per year. I also buy a local sim every year there and have people from the US call me. When calling a Brazilian mobile phone from outside the country, you have to know and use the 2 digit area code ahead of the 8 digit mobile number. This much I'm positive of. For example most of my calls go to Rio Grande do Norte. The area code there is 84. So from the US I dial 011-55-84-XXXX-XXXX. It works the same in other areas too.
The only thing I'm unsure of, cause I've never done it, is if the mobile user has traveled outside of his home area, do you still use his home area code(like most countries) or do you have to use the area code where he is roaming. |

It's still a phone number from the city where the SIM chip was purchased so you use that city code, rather than the one for wherever the person happens to be physically located at the moment of the call (if different).
From the U.S. (sorry I don't know the protocol from Europe or U.K. but it's probably just a case of how to dial out of the country from where you are calling--the equivalent of 011 for U.S.) dial: 011 (to get out of the country/U.S) 55 (country code for Brazil) City code (2 digit) 71 Salvador 21 Rio 32 most of Minas Gerais state 73 south of Bahia state 61 Brasilia 81 Recife etc. etc. (for your specific number) 8 digit mobil or landline number --- Some countries (U.S.) sell phone cards for Brazil that make calling much cheaper. (US$5 for 50 minutes to mobil and 11 hours to landline) Skype is also cheaper. |
