My girlfriend and i are traverling from Puerto madryn to el calafate and then to puerto montt. Any suggestions on the best mode of transport, bus or plane and if so what companies and approximate time of travel to each destination. many thanks

You could try to bus it but you'll waste a lot of time. These are huge distances you're talking about. Try flying from buenos Aires to Trelew or Puerto Madryn (Lan or Aerolineas Argentinas), and onwards to El Calafate (probably Aerolineas again). Puerto Montt is in Chile, and a long way away - why do you want to go there? Argentina's lake district is more beautiful than Chile's. If you do want to go, consider flying from El Calafate to Bariloche (Argentina), then doing the Lake crossing through the Andes to Puerto Montt. It's not worth the hassle though.
