I have been there a few times but the last time was in 2003. I stayed at a best western in Buenos Aires, no complaints but I don't want to stay there this time.. This time I want to stay in Recolleta or San telmo. Any ideas on good places to stay? I want my own room and bathroom. I thought I would ask those that know. Thanks guys.

This isn't in either of those areas, but Portal del Sur is a great hostel (with private rooms/bathrooms) in the center of the city. I loved my stay there, and it was really inexpensive.
Hostels in BsAs have been discussed a few times; the search function may help you find more. |

I stayed at Hotel Lion D'Or (www.hotel-liondor.com.ar). Nothing fancy, but a nice place to stay and very convenient to things in Recoleta.

How long are you staying? You can find some great apartments on Craigslist for BA. We found a fantastic place in Recoleta cheaper than what we were paying at a hostel the first couple of nights.

We rented for a little over two weeks--still great deals to be had for that amount of time.
We were really happy with the studio we rented there. I may have the owner's email address. Send me a PM if you are interested. Good luck. |

Yeah, I agree about the apartment approach. I was there four months and stayed in 3 different apartments.
One I found through my spanish speaking school and was in San Telmo. One i got off of this website: http://www.rentinba.com/en/apartments.php and was in Palermo - I wouldn't really recommend this company. They are okay and I think they are trustworthy but their service was complete crap. But, trustworthy crap. http://www.4rentargentina.com/ - This company I was very happy with. They were very professional, very responsive, and they had many apartments to choose from. Really, all of their apartments are owned by different locals and they just provide the management of hooking you up with the apartment. They charge $30 US dollars for that service. For me, it was worth it to pay that just to use the website to find what i was looking for. On craigslist, you'll most likely reach the owners directly which will save you the $30, but will be a little less selection and a little more hassle. Have fun. -JamieSue Mishaps and mayhem of a southern U.S. girl travelin solo in Argentina and the world http://jamiesue.typepad.com |

I browse the craigslist rental section quite regularly and see several listings for wonderful apartments....two weeks or more it looks like a bargain.
also vacation rental by owner - vrbo.com has several options and an acquaintance (by proxy) rents an apartment in BsAs....pm me if you want specifics, though it's comparable to anything you will find on craigslist...wish I could find the link to one I found on CL...it was spectacular and reasonably priced...anyhow, there are plenty of options. Jamie: WONDERFUL blog!!! I mean it! my GF and I are spending time in SA next May-October, most of it in AR...and I have been reading everything I can find...lots good, lots crap...yours is on the top shelf of "good"...will be reading obsessively hope you don't mind questions. |

We´re in BA now, staying in a great loft apartment in San Telmo which we found through craigslist. It´s much cheaper than any of the hotels, and many of the hostels as well. It´s typically less expensive per night if you´re staying 2 weeks rather than one. I´d give you the owner´s contact info, but I know that someone´s subletting it for 6 months beginning on July 15.
