Does anyone know if this location is nice, fun, etc? What's it like? The address is AV CALLAO 86 and the cross street is Bartolome. There is a student residence there and the spanish school I am considering (GIC Argentina) is very close to the student residence. They say it is in the "nicest area of Buenos Aires."

Would I be better off staying in Recoleta or Palermo? I guess this is fairly close?

I'd pick Palermo over Recoleta. We spent about 5 months in BsAs and switched apartments every month.

Palermo is full of parks, restaurants, more parks, and night life.

Recoleta felt kind of calm and grey in comparison. But it is a nice clean & safe upscale neighborhood.

I'd recommend renting an apartment from BYT Argentina. They took really good care of us with our multiple apt rentals.

Even if you stay in Palermo and the school is in Recoleta, you can easily walk to school each day.

We often walked across the entire city checking sights/museums/parks/restaurants/etc off our list of places to see.

YOu'll find TONS of opinions on which neighborhood is better, as both have their pro's & con's. Keep in mind "Palermo" is HUGE, and really has several areas to it (Palermo Soho, Palermo Chico, Palermo Viejo, Plaza Sorrano, etc. etc.) So, before going down that road, I'd suggest
you check your neighborhoods, and or your map again. If the school is at Bartolme & Callao, then you're neither in nor very near neither neighborhood.

Callao & Bartolome is neither in Recoleta nor Palermo, but several, several blocks south of both, a few blocks west of Av. 9 De Julio (the famous really wide street with the obelisk on it), in the Plaza Congresso area, near the Parque de Congresso & the Congresso building, near the Congresso subte staion. There's buses "collectivos" that go up/down Av. Callao, about 80p each way, that you'd likely have to take from either of the neighborhoods you're looking at. (it's at least a 30-min. walk from Congresso to Recoleta up Av. Callao).

I already realize that the address I mentioned is about a ten minute commute from Recoleta via public transportation. I was trying to find out what that area is like (at the address I gave).
