I am at the final stage of my planning and got stuck on
this leg. What's the best/economical way how to get from
El Calafte to Bariloche? Rent a car - do you know of any agency that is reliable and does not have high drop off fees?
If by bus - how long does it take? thank you.

It's not easy to get from El Calafate to Bariloche. Your best bet in terms of cost would be to take a bus- however plan for at least 16 hours of travel time. You should be able to catch a bus that has decent sleeper seats and do the trip overnight. I'm guessing most of the busses will go out to the coast highway and back in. That might look long in comparison to Ruta 40, but believe me, Ruta 40 is a long, slow, dry & dusty ride. What ever you do don't try to drive Ruta 40 in a rental unless you rent a truck and have plenty of food and water and a good spare tire.

I'm sure an airline flight from Calafate to Buenos Aires and then to Bariloche wouldn't cost too much (perhaps less than a rental car), and you would get there faster than a bus.

Cheers!
Mark
