I'm an Irish globetrotter who married an Argentinian lass and have lived here in Argentina for over a year and traveled extensively.

Hopefully you'll find the info here of use and feel free to ask questions.

Wow. So many places. How did this come about? How do you finance it? How old are you? Wow.

Bill & Sherry,

It's cheap down here at the moment with the FX rate (but that's changing) - I've saved a bit before I came down. I'm 40.

A guy from the travel company told me that in order to fly into Argentina, you have to have either a roundtrip ticket or an onward ticket. I plan on leaving Argentina by bus and flying back to the States from Lima, Peru, but the travel agent said this still would not count, and I would have to buy a roundtrip ticket out of Argentina. Any experience with this?

Thanks!

This is an old rule that technically travel companies and airlines are obligated to enforce since they can be fined if found negligent.

I have flown to Argentina numerous times with different airlines on a oneway ticket and never been asked by an airline or immigration to show proof of return on onward travel.

If the worst was to come to the worst and they gave you grief while checking in you could buy a oneway fully refundable (expensive) ticket out of Argentina at the airport - then check in and get a full refund 10 minutes later. Easy Peazy!

The rule is redundant and obsolete so don't worry!

Hi:
As a local, I agree with Quickroute. Argentina have many ways to leave by bus/ship to Uruguay, and by bus to Chile, Brasil, Paraguay, etc. So it's normal travelers come to BA by plane and leave by bus to follow South American trip. And they know, so nobody will ask you about a return ticket. And if someone do it, just tell him you will leave via Uruguay by ship...

If you need some exta tips, or accommodation in BA, you can see the website lodging4all.com.ar

Have a good trip

Ok, this is my question: I saw you travelled from South to North, very close to the Brazilian border. In November, I have to travel from Puerto Iguazu to Santo Tomé or Paso de los Libres. Do you know if there is a bus company that goes from Puerto Iguazu directly to Paso de los Libres or Santo Tomé? And where can I find bus schedules and prices?

Thanks a lot,
Rinette

You will not find online schedules or prices easily since the times and prices change frequently. You might have to change at Corrientes but there will be regular services and it's cheap so I wouldn't worry

Bus companies from Iguazu to Paso de los Libres;
San Cristobal
San José
Flecha Bus

... and from Iguazú to Santo Tomé:
Expreso Rio Uruguay
Expreso Singer
Expreso Tigre Iguazú
Via Bariloche

Don't worry for timetables, there are many buses a day,
because both places are in the route to BA. But...
most buses depart at evening, to arrive to BA next day,
so consider you will arrive to Libres or Sto. Tome
in the middle of the night.

Have a good trip!

Great help! Thank you very much.
The links you gave me, made me run into a website with schedules. It's
http://www.territoriodigital.com/notas/noticias/site.asp?horarios

So now I know more than enough about how to travel back from Puerto Iguazu to Paso de los Libres (I have to go to Uruguaiana in Brazil).

Thanks again,
Rinette
