Hi all,

My girlfriend and I will be travelling around Brazil in July, but then I'll have an extra 8 days by myself in early August. She returns home from Rio, after we will have had 5 days there. I'm seriously considering getting a cheap flight to BA and hanging out there, but would like guidance from those in the know:

-should I spend the full 8 days in BA, or perhaps 2-4 days somewhere else within an overnight bus away? suggestions? I am thinking I'd want at least 4 days in BA, probably along with that popular daytrip to the Unesco site in Uruguay (can't remember name)
-also a possibilty is mixing in 2 or 3 days somewhere within an overnight bus from Rio before/after going to BA. suggestions?
-Gol's website is quoting $R 643 return after taxes/fees (about $325 US). That seems reasonable, but any suggestions where I'd find a cheaper flight?

Thanks a lot,

Dave

5 days in rio? I stayed there for a month and felt it was too short.

If i were you i'd stay in rio and enjoy your time there, making short trips to nearby beach towns like buzios.

A lot of people liked BA, but I find Cordoba to be more pleasing even though it doesn't have many tourist sights.

Hmmmm, so folks think I should just stay put in Rio with a couple of day trips? Where would these day trips be, considering it will be early August (so, sounds like not goo beach weather near Rio)?

I guess that sounds bad, as I'm sure I can have a nice time whichever I choose (and I'm sure I'll love Rio), but going to BA with most of my extra time seems attractive because it would be very different, plus the flight is pretty cheap and the per day costs would be a lot cheaper (so, even after the price of the return flight to BA, the side trip would hardly be any more expensive than just staying in Rio).

Also, I'd actually have almost 7 days in Rio in total. My girlfriend and I will have 5 days there at the end of our time together, but also 1.5 days upon arrival.

But you are making me reconsider. Can anyone suggest a couple of cool places to hang out (again, considering early August weather) within an overnight of Rio?

Thanks again,

Dave

ick ... "no other city in South America that touches your high odds of getting ass" and "pussy doesn't fall from the sky" - ??? Roosh, you might want to think twice about pointing people to your website. The guy is traveling with his girlfriend, right? Why send him to a site, even if it's yours, about "how to pick up girls and get laid?"

Anyway, I've got a similar choice - I have a week in Rio, and then a week extra that I can play with. It's either a second week in Rio, a few days solo in the Pantanal, or a week in Buenos Aires. I'm really leaning towards BA - it sounds like an amazing city, and it would be a nice counterpart to the chaos of Rio. And I can find cheap tickets into Rio and out of BA, so that helps!

Head to the Pantanal for a few days/nights trekking, horse-riding, wildlife watching, camping, great group trip - maybe you will even have time for Bonito snorkeling too - www.ecologicalexpeditions.com.br are good and throw in a night at the hostel which is great for a much needed shower at the end before busing it back to Rio (I didn't even stay just hopped on a bus once clean and repacked) - bus station opposite hostel

If you don't like roughing it, head to Paraty for a nice chilled vibe
