Hi there,

I'm wondering which S. American countries would be best for travel with a baby-- we are planning a trip in the spring and our son will be approx. 15 months.

We were considering Ecuador and Chile-- anyone have any thoughts from previous experience?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have kids but can tell you that Latin America is overall extremely family centric and you'll find kids everywhere you turn (even in some bars). I imagine you'll find hotels and busses extremely accomodating and that having a child will open up all kinds of connections with the locals. I'd just be a little extra cautious with food and water until your child is used to it.

Thanks for the reply crackerjillian-- it seems not many on this board have kids (but travelling shouldn't stop just cause you spawned, should it? Wink)

Check the "traveling with children" section. lots of good info. I travel with both my brats (but make my wife do most of the work) and still have a great time.

See the section.

At 15 months immune systems are still an issue, less if you breastfeed. Be extremely careful about what they drink and eat, boiled or fried is a way to go, water in bottle from store, not from tap.

If a lake has been known to be unsanitary, just don't go near the water. Telling a 15 mo child NOT to drink the water is not really a practical idea.
