Do you need vaccinations for travel in Ecuador.
Would appreciate recommendations on the need and what kind.

So it kind of depends on where you're going. In the east and south rainforest area, they suggest a number of things, including malaria pills...the CDC has a complete list. However, I spent time in Quito, Chugchilan (in the mountains), and Otavalo and wasn't required to get any vaccinations.

No required vaccines. BUT.. common sense these days is certain jabs should be had by all even if you stay at home. Hep A, Hep B and tetanus are musts. Suppose you are in a remote area and have an accident. Rural clinics, either through lack of training or lack of funds may not sterilize to best standards. Hep A+B are pretty endemic in the Andes. If you are going to the jungle below 1500 meters take the appropriate malaria pills. Read the CDC and WHO about current yellow fever conditions in the jungle. Some countries require yellow fever jabs for all coming from infected areas.
