Hi there,
My bofriend and i are planning our trip to South America in October 2008. We wanted to travel to Peru and Brazil. We have found two tours one in Peru that incorporates the Inca Trail; Cuzco and Macch Pitchu and then another in Manaus in Brazil. We only have two weeks and are on a fairly tight budget. The problem is how to organise it. I really wanted to arrive in lima then depart from Rio or visa versa but any ideas on how we are going to get from Manaus to cuzco or Cuzco to Manaus? Both organised trips are for 5 days 4 nights so we have 4 days for travel inbetween or at either end. Any better suggestions? Thanks Guys

Only two weeks and two South Am countries doesn't really make sense. Skip Brazil this time. Only for the main sites in Peru you'd need 4 weeks.
After Cuzco and MP visit Puno and Titicaca lake (including the islands), Arequipa, go on Colca Canyon tour.
Nazca and the Nazca lines is another popular site.
If you're on tight budget you might consider doing the whole trip on your own. Peru is a tourist friendly country, and well suited for individual travel.
Language is a bit of a problem (English rarely spoken), but it shouldn't be difficult for you to get by with your Portugese.

I agree with moniak... getting to Manaus will likely be a giant pain in the ass, you'll probably have to go lima-sao paulo-manaus, so schedule at least an entire day of travel. Also, flights between SP and Manaus and also to Lima are super expensive-- maybe better to concentrate on one place and do it well?

I'll join the bandwagon and say with financial constraints and time limits, stick to one country. Getting to Brazil is either a costly plane ticket or a timely boat ride. In Peru, you can also visit Huacachina (1.5 hours S of Lima) and go sand boarding. Huaraz is also a place for outdoorsy activities like rock climbing. Mancora is a beautiful beach town, so I hear...

Peru is pretty easy on the budget and buses are plentiful to widely covered destinations. A cursory knowledge in Spanish is helpful, but an inventive non-speaker or phrasebook handy will suit you just fine.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice.
Its a nightmare lol I really wanted to go to Brazil because I speak pretty good Portuguese and I wanted to visit the amazon basin for a deep jungle tour. The problem is the flights are as you stated super expensive and there is no direct flight between where I want to go. Can you belive it prob works out cheaper to go for 6 weeks than all the messing around with quick travel over 2!!! I wish I could but all my babies (pets) will hate me leaving them with friends. Has anyone took the slow boat to Iquitos from Manaus?? I was thinking if we could stretch our stay to three weeks we could fly into manaus then to rio then to Lima. It seemed so simple before I actually started planning it all. xxx
