Knows What a Schengen Visa Is

Hello,

Flying into Buenos Aires 20th September.
Inca Trail booked from Cusco 13th October.
Fly out of Bogota 10th Dec.

So that leaves me less than a month to get from BA to Cusco.

I'm thinking about skipping Bolivia and concentrating on Argentina.

Do you think this would be a good idea or a real waste? I suppose this question is really subjective.

Buses, not flying.

Thanks,

Jude.

I'd absolutely not skip Bolivia. I can see your timing with Inca trail is not good.
What's your itinterary in Argentina? Could it be BA - Iguazu - across Paraguay back to Argentina and farther to Salta? Or, Iguazu and across Paraguay through Chaco to Bolivia?

Have you paid for your Inca trail already ? If not, my suggestion is to just leave it until you arrive to Cuzco, and sign up for Salkantay or Lares instead. I did Salkantay and from what I could understand having talked to those who did Inca trail, mine choice was right.
Salkantay seems to be better, albeit more challenging, and you can get it for half the price of Inca trail, when you buy it on the spot.

If you can't change it, try to make a week in Bolivia, for Salar de Uyuni and La Paz. You've got to consider the altitude and acclimatisation, so you can't rush it.

Hey,

Sadly, Inca Trail is unmoveable. I booked it for as late in the year as possible, for more time in Argentina, but any later and we're into the rainy season...

and my work here finishes September 18th so that's as much time as I have. Less than a month before trail.

I paid the deposit for my trail, yes. Plus, I'll be going with my friend on the trek, and he's paid the deposit as well.

There's no plan for Argentina yet.

I've read mixed reviews about the Inca Trail. Overcrowded etc... but it's booked now, with a co. who has received great reviews so can't complain.

Re. altitude, I was planning on getting to Cusco a few days before for acclimatisation.

So you think a week in Bolivia. I would love to go there but I just wonder if 2 weeks in Arg is enough for 'getting to know a place' etc. After living in NYC for a year I refuse to rush around! I just wonder whether spending more time in Arg would be better and tackle Bolivia another time. Would I be able to acclimatise in say... Northern Argentina?

Thanks Moniak.

A month isn't enough time to see Argentina or Bolivia thoroughly, let alone both. I'd either spend the whole month in central/northern Argentina, then make a b-line for Cusco, or spend the whole month in Bolivia. Take it from people who have been there. Don't try to see it all in a short time. It will only wear you down and regret only seeing a few basic highlights.
