Let you in on a secret for future posts. It really helps if you specify a few things such as interests, budget(in dollars, not adjectives) and length of trip.

We know you aren't hiking the Inca trail. Nothing to do with age... folks old enough to be your granny do it. But the July slots have been booked for months. But... since Cusco better be your priority stop, you can easily go to Machu Picchu on the train. BTW... just heard that rail service is going to be expanded.

So... give Cusco a serious hunk of trip time. If you come back with the info I asked for I could give you some real details. After Guat. Peru is one of my favorites. So where else... Lima.. the Inquisition museum is weird and popular.. especially if you happen to be from the Bay Area. Arequipa-beautiful city. The convent is a must see. Islas de paracas- poor man's Galopagos. Bring an old, floppy wide brimmed hat. Interested in the jungle? Nah.. forget Iquitos.. it is about as far from jungle these days as Wyoming. Everything cut down. BUT... going out of Cusco..two options. Puerto Maldonado for the shorttime/ budget folks. Manu... super way cool. I've done a ton of jungle trips in this hemisphere and Manu is the best. Costs. Photos of most of this stuff on my web site GoodtimeBob. Read some of the warnings and packing info stuff. Get yourself a good guide book. I no longer recommend Lonely Planet guides with the on going and spreading scandal of corruption and bribe taking by LP authors with the complicity of LP management. That leaves Moon or Rough guide. You don't want Fodors unless your hair is blue. Comeback with some of the details I asked for and I and others can help you. You get out of a question what you put into it. Don't get all anal about planning ever little detail. But having a rough time line and intinerary cuts down on nervousness and if something goes wrong it gives the next of kin a starting point to look for the body.

thanks, bob, appreciate your reply....only have 9 days, and am living at sea level, so know there will be some adjustment, like when i go to antigua or pana. not crazy about being cold, tho.
budget appx $60-70/day, not inc. flights. is that at all reasonable?
museums, ruins, architecture, don't do nightlife, i'm over it! hard to find a guide book here, doing all my searching online so far.
your site is a great help. ya done good, keep it up
