Hi. From reading great reviews here and on the thontree, my girlfriend and I are seriously considering spending 3-4 days in Pantanal instead of the Amazon. However, we haven't found much info on costs. We only have 3 weeks in Brazil (in July) and were actually reconsidering going because of the high combined cost of the flight from Canada along with the necessary TAM airpass and the not-so-cheap prices of Brazil generally.

Anyway, Panatal sounds amazing, but it'd be great to know how much we can expect to pay for 3 days there for lodging, food, guide, and necessary transpo (it sounds like flights are necessary?). I did read one estimate of $150 US per day.

Any other suggestions are welcome. For example, it sounds like many prefer the southern area around Campo Grande versus close to Cuiaba, but would love to hear others' opinions. We're thinking of heading there after visiting Iguacu falls, and then perhaps off to Salvador or further Northeast.

Also, I have read posts of others who have spent only 3 days and had a great time. Of course, more time woult be better, but further comfirmation that this is doable would be appreciated.

Finally, for Brazil in general (concentrating on the Northeast but also 4 days in Rio) is expecting to pay on average about 40-50 US per day after internal flights realistic for travel in July and renting budget doubles? I know Rio will be pricier, but I'm hoping the Northeast will bring the average per day down.

Thanks a lot,

Dave

July is a month when Brazilians have vacation and is considered a kind of high-season (for accomodation prices)in most places. A budget double is probably R$120+ in any city and some popular northeast beach areas.

Costs in the Pantanal vary with the quality of the accomodations and how far into the Pantanal the fazenda is.
Look at Passo do Lontra tours www.passodolontra.com.br, Gilstours or Ecological expeditions or Greentrack tours out of Campo Grande bus station for economy tours.

This si a good thread to look at (and anything on any forum by ericos):
