Continental OnePass guarantees an aisle or window seat to OnePass members. If one isn't available or you (supposedly) choose a middle seat, you receive 2500 miles on your OnePass account.

Question:
You have aisle seats on a 3 hour flight. If you switch to a middle seat you would get 2,500 miles for each leg of the trip. Would you do it?

Choices:
yes
no

I'd most definitely do it. I would guess a 3 hour flight would be child's play to most BnA members.

3 hours, hell yeah.

Once you get 5+ hours though, probably not.

I guess I am the only no.
How many miles do you need for a free flight?
I hate that trapped feeling.

Absolute "no" here as well.

20,000 miles.....I'd have to think hard about. 25,000 on my preferred/most convenient airline would swing to "yes".

Put another way, I'd pay 10,000 miles to get out of a middle seat for a 3-hour flight. Such is the luxury of having more miles than (current) opportunity to use them.

On a 3 hour flight I'd actually prefer a middle seat because it's less likely I'll have to get up to let someone go to the restroom. Make that a 6 hour flight and I'd have to think about it a little more. I routinely take 3 hour or less flights for work (I actually went to Boston and back today) so my legs are used to being cramped.

That would be a no from me as well - like NTFT said maybe for more miles i would possibly consider it, but not for 2500 miles.

I'd bet 2500 miles that there is a strong correlation between yes/no and age...with younger folks saying yes and older saying no.

Sorta like asking someone "would you be willing to sleep on your mate's booz stained hallway floor to save £30 on a hotel?" (which is something I've done)

Ten years ago, 'yes'. These days, 'no'. Such is life...

I once willingly transfered from my nice window seat in a 2-seat configuration for a middle seat.

My seatmate had a miscarriage, and was going home to Manila. Her husband flew over to fetch her, but economy class on the same flight was already fully booked, so he bought business class seats.

Sooo, they asked pleaded with me to change seats with her husband so they can sit together. How can I say no? Big Grin

Don't mind me, I'm just wandering.

As Stoo says, it's probably age related but also depends on how many miles you already have in the bank. I've got plenty of spendable miles, but if those 2500 miles counted towards elite status for the next year I might very well do it. If not, then no way.

If you know to ask that question, then you know the answer!

I guess I just don't see the big deal about the middle seat. In my experience, economy is economy, and I don't find much difference between an aisle and the middle, particularly on short flights like the hypothetical one in the question.

Really, me being in the middle seat is just more of a hassle for the aisle seat person, since I'll get up once every hour or two regardless of where I sit.

Well, the poll results show 75% would and 25% wouldn't...the total miles I 'would' have gained was 5,000 (thanks Canuck Girl, I now know what I am too)...every $ means a mile to me at this point...that said, I checked with Continental and they will only give the miles IF there are no window or aisle seats available for OnePass members (regardless of status)...so I'm not giving up my aisle seats this time. As a total frequent flyer 'virgin' (umm, can I be a miles whore and a virgin too??) sorry, couldn't resist..., I have to see how others would handle situations that present themselves. Thanks for all your input.

For one hour, maybe...for 3 hours, no way. 2500 miles just isn't enough.

Like NTFT said, I would use miles to get out of a middle seat, should I be forced into one. I don't like being trapped. My comfort is worth more to me at this point in my flying life.
