I heard something interesting the other day. A lady told me it is possible to add pages to your passport at various airports or the like when you are wanting to get a VISA. Can anyone confirm this?

I only have two pages left in my passport and I am worried that I will have to get a new one along my travels and I don't really want to wait.

Depends on your nationality. I'm fairly certain you cannot do it at airports though. A passport is the property of the relevant authority in the issuing country, and only authorized consular staff can alter it. With US passports, it's the Department of State.

I had an extra 24 pages added to my US passport last January at the US Embassy in Guatemala City. It took about a half hour, and was free. Some countries will not add pages to passports, instead requiring the bearer to get a new one. You didn't mention your nationality, so I can't say for sure.

I'm pretty sure Brits have to get new passposts, having traveled with them. The free American ones are cool -- the pages are lettered A-X instead of numbered.

This also did not seem to address the need for passport pages when outside of America.

American passport regulations and procedures have changed a lot in the last 2 years. Your best bet is to haul yourself to the nearest embassy/consulate and go to American Citizen services.

I see you are Canadian, so I can't be certain that it's the same for you as it is for Americans (which is that the consulate will give you extra pages for free if you can give up your passport for a few days).

I'd recommend contacting your embassy for information.

The last time I spoke to the passport office in Ottawa, Canadian cannot simply add pages. When your passport is full, you go to an embassy for a new one. However when you do so, you can ask for a 45 or 48 page passport instead of the standard 24 page one.

For what it's worth, this is also correct for UK passports. My dad had to get a new passport as he'd run out of pages and because of this they wouldn't honour a visa he'd just got for China that was still lurking in the full one.
You can get a larger passport but it (obviously) costs you more.

FWIW, the guy I was travelling with (USA) just had 24 pages added for free in about 30 minutes at the US Embassy in Saigon.
