Whenever I approve a comment for my blog, the author of the comment can then post comments to my blog all the time without me reading it first. This is normally okay. If there is one author that I want to moderate all the time, how do I do this?

Hi,

It's not possible to moderate every comment for just one person. The settings apply to everyone across the board.

To adjust this, you have a couple choices for comment moderation under the "options" -> "discussion" menu.

Admin approval of every comment, no matter what. - this would make it so every time someone posts a comment you review it first. That's pretty much the only option you have to accomplish the moderation prior to it being posted.

Not quite what you're looking for, but I hope that helps.

So sorry! I messed up. I was looking at one of our different blog systems. Hope you weren't pulling your hair out too much.

If you want this setting enabled, I can probably get it changed for you by one of the programmers. Is that something you want us to put in place?

Yes, i definitely need to edit all posts.

I have an adamant rule about no personal info (like my name) being on the blog, yet all my friends say "Hey ____, that's a great comment". I need to be able to edit out that stuff.

Not yet. Some comments on my blog were getting a little heated and I just want to avoid a all out fight. I will let you know if I need this feature. Thanks for your response.

Snarky - you can edit the comments no problem - that's a different issue than moderating the comments before they are posted.

To edit them, it's under "manage" -> "comments"

(I double checked this one Smile )

OK, so I think I'm clear, but to be sure based on teh query above.

So far, every comment I've gotten had asked me to moderate, so that's not been a problem.

But from the post above it looked like once someone posted the first time, they could then post unmoderated. Am I misreading?

You are not misreading - once someone's comment has been approved by you, their next comment(s) should go through automatically without needing you to do anything to them. You can, however, still edit these comments (and any others you've already moderated) after they've gone up.

So, what if you approve some random person's comment and then they prove to be a nutjob who spams you? Can you block them then?

Is there any way to set it such that all comments need to be moderated before they go live?

That's what Mika was saying he could do manually - make it so every post needed to be moderated first. It's available on another of our blog systems, but not the member blogs. If that's something you'd like to have him do, post that here and I'll pass it along to him.

Snarky,

Your blog should now be set so you must approve every comment, regardless of whether the author has a previously approved comment or not.
