I learned to code HTML before all these WYSIWYG programs came about... and am glad I did, because when shit goes wrong with them, I can manually fix it. And the same goes for here... The visual rich editor inevitably doesn't do what I want it to, or changes a layout back to how it wants it, even after I try to fix it. And it's not even a matter of clicking on the "HTML" button to fix it, because it will just ignore what I do, and put it back. I have to go into my profile, disable the VRE, and then go back and do my coding. It's never major stuff, just little layout issues, like how it deals with pictures with text, or how it creates (or doesn't create) paragraph breaks... just things I want control of to keep it cleaned up.

This is probably something out of your control, as it's an issue with how the software is written, and I've had the same problems with other programs like Frontpage or Dreamweaver... but I just wanted to rant about it cuz it's annoying me.

Isn't functionality vs useability always a tradeoff? This discussion is a constant in the Linux community. Knowledgeable people (read: geeks) complain things don't do what they want, unknowledgeable people (non-geeks) complain they're too complicated.

I just have the rich text editor turned off. This is for two reasons, the first of which is that when I get a slow connection while travelling, the RTE takes forever to load, and the second is what you've already stated - it kind of sucks.

Yeah, the RTE was supposed to be a benefit of the newer version of the blogging software that we upgraded to, but I wholly agree with you that it sucks. We've turned it off as the default setting on all new blogs that get created.

Considering it was the first generation I'm not surprised that it's a bit buggy, but I still recommend people turn it off on their blogs.

I have found it to do exactly what I wanted it to do. Once I learned how the program preformed I haven't had any major problems with it, I adjusted ny blogs layout to fit the program's uniqueness.

That is until a few days ago when you turned of VRE and I didn't know why it wasn't working properly (it sometimes turns off on older machines but not on my laptop)

Thanks for the post though, after a few days I was worried it wouldn't come back (I had forgotten the option to turn it back on til just now.
