To add an image to your post: go to the post entry and scroll down to 'upload'. Choose your file, with a title and a description.

When you upload an image, you see a thumbnail version of the image display. Click on the thumbnail once and you will see a variety of options in a small pop-up window.

The first option is "Using thumbnail". You can click on that once and change it to "Using Original". This means your original-sized image will appear in your blog when you click "Send to editor". If you choose "Using thumbnail", you may wish to link to a larger version of your image so people can actually see it better. You can do this on the second line of the options: "Not Linked" means your thumbnail will not be linked to a larger image. "Linked to Image" means your thumbnail will be be a link that readers can click on and see a larger version of the image. "Linked to page" works the same way except the image will appear on a blog page. I recommend this option.

Once you have the options the way you want them, select "Send to editor" and your photo will appear in your blog entry and you can continue to write the blog post as normal.

Thanks Donovan for all the photo uploading advice. Everything became crystal clear a few months ago when I finally downloaded the firefox software. Neither Safari or Explorer allowed me to upload photos from my Mac. I have a sub category for photo galery and I've noticed that all the photos in the photo galery only appear as 'read more'. So, my question is - after imbedding the original photos into the home blog, how do I create a 'photo gallery' meaning a collection of all the photos that have appeared in each daily entry? Is there a quick way of doing this? Some of the pictures were transferred from my old blog Beyond Paris.
Thanks!
Chris. www.parislogue.com

Hello,

I am uploading and posting pictures just fine, but I'd like to frame the pictures with text wrapped around them instead of the messy way that I have most of my pictures now. Chris helped me recover a bunch of pages that were lost in the server crash and when he replaced the photos, he set the pics nicely in the text. Is there an easy way to do this or do I need to write the code to frame the text around my pics? Thanks for your help, Ray

That's my question as well. I paste my photos from Flickr, and the text never wraps around them (I center the larger ones anyway, but some of the smaller pics would be nice just inserted into the text).

Inside the image code you paste into your blog entry add the text [align="right"] - without the square brackets. This will place your image to the right of the page and wrap the text around it. Change the word to "left" to align the image left.

Thank you! I have no clue why I never got this to work previously--I reckon I placed the 'align' tag outside the IMG tag so the thing would align, but the text wouldn't wrap. Doh!

I´m having trouble with the photo uploading thing. If I send a photo to the editor it makes all the text a link to that photo as well as displaying the thumbnail. Is it something I´m doing to the code?
Also do I need a different code to just make one word a link to a photo and not have the photo itself appear at all on the blog? Is it an option in the menu that I haven´t found or do I need different HTML?
Thanks

Hi Claire,

I'm not sure why but when your photos are being sent to the editor they are missing a little piece of code on the end that closes off the link around the images. The piece you're missing is '</a>'. I added it in the entry you were having problems with you so you can see how it looks.

Also, to make a word into a link that shows an image when clicked, you simply need to delete the thumbnail image code and replace it with the words you want linked. I created an example of that in your latest entry as well.

Usually if it says "no thumbnail" in the first place, that's because the original size image is small enough that there isn't a thumbnail size available. Is that the only option you're not seeing?

Hi,

I hope you can help! I am trying to link photos from an album (public) that I have set up in Picasa. The "photo" just appears with a box and a red cross (see Who Are We Page). Am I doing something really stupid?

Thanks

Lisa

The problem is that you're not actually linking to an image, but a page with the image on it. You can either create a text link to this photo (or the entire album), or you could re-size the image and upload it directly to your blog. To help with re-sizing images so they fit into your blog, check out this site.

I'm switching to flickr for my photo-hosting. But I'm no techno-geek and don't even know which sort of blog boots-n-all uses, so I can't add mine - anyone care to enlighten me?

BootsnAll blogs use WordPress. I hope that helps, because if it doesn't I'll have to ask someone else for more information - that's about the extent of what I know about the blog platform! Smile

Chris - I'm not using the 'text' version when I edit (not sure if that's known as 'rich text' or not). Whatever - my issue is the same, I'm having trouble melding my photos and text so that they look good together. Any ideas? Thanks!

I would highly recommend the text only version for your editing screen. You can switch this easily in your profile page in your admin. Scroll down to "Personal Options" and uncheck the box next to 'Use the visual rich editor when writing'.

Hello Chris,

I am trying to start my blog pages with the original photo shot not a thumbnail. I have tried the "Using Original" option with "Link to Page" as well as all of the other options. All that happens is that they start out as a thumb nail. Can you see if I am doing something wrong. I posted a test page so that you can check it out.

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

When you upload your image and then click on the thumbnail version of it to display the image options, make sure what you see says 'Using Original' rather than 'Using thumbnail'. Don't click on the words 'Using original' thinking that will select it. Whatever is visible is what is currently selected. Once you have that, click on send to editor and your image should display at the original size - just make sure your image is not too wide to display in your blog text area. It should be no more than 500px wide.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Cheers,

Chris
