Okay, I have just maxed out the 20 mb of storage space allotted for photos on my travel blog.

Just so you know, I am on my third year of a four year round the world trip, so I am using more space than the average traveler.

I am using a 4 megapixel camera set at highest resolution, but for the blog I am using PictureTray to reduce to a quarter of the size. My uploads are in the 35-90kb per photo so nothing huge.

I have stopped posting redundant photos of churches, markets, city shots, sunsets, and other routine shots as they get kind of monotonous after a short while.

Mostly the photos are only of things that I think are different.

Now I have almost two years to go and am still wanting to post more pictures. I know of the Flicker option but I would still like to follow the same format of showing the thumbnails on the website rather than having the viewer switch to a different site even if it is a link.

In my defense, in the beginning there was no set limitations on photo uploadings. Only when the format change and the new software implementation occurred did the picture limitation come into effect. Had I known that in the beginning I might not have used this web host.

Can you let me know what my options are?

Thanks
Steve

Have you tried Photobucket? It's free, and you get 1 Gb for images and videos and 25Gb per month for bandwidth traffic. It links to virtually all the blog sites. You can also upgrade to the 'professional' version -$25/yr, 5 GB for images/unlimited bandwidth and a lot of other stuff that I don't understand. I've used it for over 4 years and although I'm not storing near the photos you are, it's an easy site to use and you can allow friends to view your pics and they can't change/delete them. I don't know if I've helped or not..but maybe it's a site you're not familiar with.

2gowhere? Thanks for the info, all suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Bootsnall were very accommodating and helped me out with a solution.

I was hesitant to switch to another host for the pictures because you lose continuity when the reader has to switch sites. I like to have the thumbnail with the story so they can get the idea without having to leave the page. Realistically, I would say most people don't open every picture, but only the ones where something catches their eye (well excluding mom that is, she is required to look at all of them and tell me how wonderful of a photographer I am.) I liken it to looking at other peoples vacation photos, blahhh.

Kathryn: gotta figure out what size your photos are going to be. My four mega-pixel camera at highest resolution ends up at around 400kb to 1mb per photo. My friends professional SLR with twelve megapixel averages around 2.5mb per photo. A GIG can hold 1000Mb so, well pull out the calculator and you can figure it out. On my website I use PhotoTray to reduce the images to one-quarter the original size and it works nicely plus speeding up uload times and is much quicker for the reader.

Nice handle as well, good luck with that squat toilet thing.

Hey Steve-

Little confused here. Is the reference to the handle "squate toilet professional" a joke? It's just the one that boots gives me for the number of posts that I have. Or are you talking about another thread where I posted that I don't like the handle as everytime I have found a squat toilet I have decided to hold it?

I think there's confusion between people.

There's an active blog called the Squat Pot Diaries, but it was recently renamed to the Didgeridoo Diaries, apparently:

I correct myself. It's your 'moniker' under your name is Squat Toilet Professional. It's based on the number of posts you've made to the site.

Kathryn- my camera memory card is 1 GB; according to the 'estimates' a 5 megapixel camera, with a photo file size of 1.9 mb, would hold 503 photos. So 3 GB theoretically would hold about 1500. But it all depends on what resolution your use and whether you crop your photos, etc. The smaller the file (photo) size, the faster it loads. May be extraneous information...fyi
