Once upon a time, in Jolly Jolly Lester in Vagator, India, there was a frog named Luke Flystalker. He had a wife and a child flystalker. There was a roach, too. And a blogwriter named Global Recon. He got Delhi Belly. It is a hilarious entry.

This is an interesting entry from BootsnAll member grannygold about a topic that I know a lot of people here wrestle with, that is, the rewards (and price) of living a nomadic life versus a "normal" one.

Nomads, misfits, travelers

Here is another entry from Grannygold on the ethics of blogging. Very interesting stuff!

Connor's blog is often mentioned here because it is simply hilarious--as well as touching. And Connor kicks ass! Currently he's working on setting up an Orphanage in Nepal. He'll be holding a benefit gig in New York on August 24th, for those that can make it.

Whalewatcher beat me to it - I've been meaning to mention Conor's amazing new plans... Well, this note arrived in my inbox today, so I'm sharing it with all y'all (since I know so many of you are Conor groupies like me):

quote:
Hello Friends!

This is a simply a very quick explanation of the Evite that is about to land in your inbox. After spending six months working in an orphanage in Nepal, I have come back to America to start a non-profit organization that will be dedicated to supporting victims of child trafficking from conflict zones in Nepal I will be leaving America at the end of August to move to a small village in Nepal, where the first order of business will be starting up an orphanage. (I know what you're thinking: "Haven't the orphans suffered enough?" and the answer, clearly, is "No.")

The name of the organization is Next Generation Nepal and we are having a launch party/benefit in NYC on the evening of Thursday, August 24th, which I am organizing with the tireless help of some truly excellent and highly skilled friends.

The next email you receive will be an Evite to this benefit with all the details. The reason for this introductory email was because Evite only allocates 250 characters in their email invitation - about three words - which would have been confusing at best and at worst led you to think you were being invited to a party hosted by Tonto.

Hope to see you on the 24th!

Yours,
Conor

If you want more info on the event, you can contact Conor by leaving a comment on his blog.

Does that guy ever stop asking for money?

Just kidding, of course. He rocks. Haven't checked out his blog in a couple months, but also got an e-mail from him yesterday. Sounds like he's kicking into high gear. Good cause, good guy, good for him.

Don't ask me how I found Green Apron Monkey since it happened in the usual way of random clicking about of link after link after link.

Some of it is painfully self indulgent (perhaps as many blogs can be) but much of it is delightful:

Me vs Mandarin

Advice for the Socially Awkward

Devil's Phrasebook Because, really, everyone should know how to say, 'My liver hates me,' and 'Don't worry, the dog ate all the vomit,' in every language.

Hey, Foreigner

Well, in what will probably be a fruitless effort to pimp this thread ... I'm going to link to what I consider a classic entry from the BnA-hosted blog "Traveling with Sean and Jennifer". (It's in the RTW-completed section.) They were traveling through China at the time, and had a funny little adventure trying to mail something back to the US one day.

"Hell is the China Post"

Oh I remember this one...good one!! Where and Sean and Jennifer now...give us an update guys. What you been upto!!

Holy crap! So I'm only answering this a year and a half later, but what the heck. I just now noticed it.

Thanks for the kind words. We've had adventure after adventure since then, but I do have a new blog set up. You can reach it at Great Diversions. It will eventually highlight our time in Kiev, Ukraine when we move their next year, but for now it is mostly about life in the Foreign Service stuff.

And just so I'm not totally pimping my own blog, I have to give props to Erik's original blog with that rockin' video. It was very inspiring to me.

My sister, brother in law and 8-month-old nephew have recently set down in Argentina where they'll be spending the next 4 months.

Their experiences are all documented on:
Bugsy and His Bandits (bugsy being my nephew.)

While I like to think that my 'blog is modestly entertaining, Ka-Hung's beats the pants off it. I just love his writing, and am constantly impressed by the way he deals just as well with serious subjects as silly ones.
