I swear I am not a total tard but I just can't figure out how to add a map to my blog. I saw the earlier post of a guy who had the same question and there is a link now to his map, but it doesn't give very good info on how to start.

When I start, I get a pop-up that says something about a key that no longer works with this site. You have to go to Google and get a new key. There is no basic info on what you are supposed to do to get this supposed key, and what to do if you happen to run into a key.

Also, another pop-up says that my browser cannot handle maps or something like that. I have tried it on different computers with different browsers, Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, etc. and nothing.

Again, not a tard, but still don't get it. Help in basic English if possible.

Thanks
Steve

1. First of all, be sure you're logged in to your blog.

2. Next, create a map template. This can be a particular country or the whole world. In the right column of your blog you'll see a link under your Maps heading called 'add map'. Click on that link.

2. Click on the 'create a new map template' link on this page. You should see a map of the world. You can drag the map around to position it where you want to focus (eg: Europe), then click the + button to zoom in. Get as close as you want. Then enter a title in the 'Map template title' field below the map. Add a short description (optional). Click save.

3. Once it has saved, click on the 'add map' link in the side column again. You should see your new template in the list of map templates.

4. When you see your template in the list, click on the 'use' link. This will open your template and when you click on any point in the map, a window will pop up allowing you to name the destination and also provide a link to a website (eg: an article from your blog) that talks about that location.

5. Click on any other point on the map and repeat the process. Now a line will join those two points. You can do this as many times as you wish on any map and come back and edit later if you want to add points.

6. When you're done adding points, add a title for your map in the 'Map Title' field. Add a short description (optional). Click save.

7. When you return to your blog's home page, you'll see a link to your new map in the side column of your blog.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

The first pop up I get when I click on add map says,

The Google Maps API key used on this web site was registered for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this web site at http:/www.google.com/apis/maps/

When I click on the 'create a new map template' the same pop up.

Then the border 'square box' pops up but there is nothing inside and a new pop up states,

Sorry, your browser can't handle google maps.

From there I am stuck.

So hopefully, that shows that I am not a total tard and there is some huge global issue that requires hundreds of high tech geeks plugging away to fix it.

Anyway's, let me know what I should do.

Thanks
Steve

Actually, I think I figured it out. Your blog is on its own domain which is why google is having a fit thinking you're not part of our API key. I'll see what we can do to fix it, I'm sure there is a way.

Steve, can you give it another crack? I think we've been able to sort out the API key issue.

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks. I still need to play with it, but the maps are popping up.

Good job,

Steve
