Hi all, long time lurker first time poster here Smile
My wife, 5 month old daughter and I are traveling from Australia to Europe via SEA leaving in June and aiming to make it to Poland for Christmas. From there we hope to find a spot in Europe that is warm, has good food and a local rugby team, that we can settle into for a few years and immerse ourselves in the European lifestyle.
Firstly, has anyone had any experience spending this amount of time on the road with a baby? What sort of advice would you give to a first timer?
And secondly, has anyone relocated semi-permanently with their young family and what sort of issues did you run into?

Don't worry - you don't spend a long time on the road with a baby because they turn into toddlers pretty quickly!!!!!
We haven't switched countries for a longterm stay with kids so can't help you there, and our two years in Poland was pre-Schengen so not much help there either. Noone thought much of rugby there (barbaric sport!!) and it was cold in winter so head south!

I just spent 4 months on the road with my now 2 year old. When he was 3 months we did the same thing. Kids adapt so quicky. The thing that kept me and my son sane was consistancy. As much as I could, nap time was still at the same times, and I made sure there was A LOT of down time. My son is now a SUPER traveler who I know will out-do me someday. I made sure that I kept a lot fofamiliar things with him, like a blanket stuffed animal etc etc..
This most recent trek, was awsome, but I did notice after 3-4 months he started asking me questions like " is this my bathroom?" " Is this MY home now?". It did scare me that he was learning not to get attached to people, as he would make a new friend who ALWAYS went away the next day or two. He started to visibly show that he needed a place to call home. You will not have that with an infant, but, they need some sort of familiarity. IE: nap times, blankets, mom and dad etc etc etc...
Enjoy, starting them off young is an amazing thing. My 2 year old knows about Volcanos, crocodiles, Macaws, sloths etc. and not just from watching Diego and Dora.
;-)
Enjoy!
