We are heading to Malaysia and Thailand in July with our 6 mth old daughter. I have looked at the car seat thread, but it dodn't really answer my question...
What can you do to lessen the risk of travelling in a taxi in countries that do not have car seat...
We won't be using taxis that much, but it will be hard to get around otherwise, especially going to and from the airports...
Any great ideas gratefully appreciated!

Bike helmet? ;-)
Seriously, that last post was the best plan. Those stroller thingys may be ugly, but they were a brilliant idea.
I live in NYC, we dont use a car seat when in a taxi at all. We place him in the middle and use the seat belt.

I've had another thought which you could look into - not sure how safe it would be. Do you use a wrap or front pack? It might be OK to put the seat belt on you and then attach the child to you - but on the outside of the seatbelt so they don't get squashed.

Hi and thanks for you suggestions...

We are in Malaysia right now and heading to Thailand tomorrow. (been here 2 weeks) So far we have been using the Baby Bjorn baby carrier with the baby strapped in, and the seatbelt around me - between the baby and me.
That seems to work alright.. although there are not always seatbelts! Thankfully none of the taxi drivers so far have been really crazy drivers!
Caitlin (our daughter) loves Malaysia BTW she is 6 mothsa and there are so many exciting things to look at!

Oh, and we haven't taken a stroller with us either... good plan, as the sidewalks in SE Asia are really uneven and full of market stalls and people... would be a total nightmare. The baby carrier is working well tho.
