Hi
My husband and I are planning to spend up to a year travelling around the world (mainly Africa, South America, Australasia, and a little of Asia) when our baby is a year old. Does anyone else who has travelled with a young toddler for such an extended period of time have any words or wisdom to help us decide if this is feasible?

Also, we would like to base our trip around farm stays and wwoofing in different countries so we can stay with local families and really immerse ourselves in the culture. Has anyone know anything about wwoofing or agricultural volunteering with a small child?

Any tips or stories would be greatly appreciately!

What a fantastic adventure you have planned. My husband and I are heading off in March 09 for 6-9 months around the world with our daughter who will be one at the time.

I don't have any advise about wwoofing or agricultural volunteering but just wanted to wish you luck on the big adventure Trinque

Thanks! Good luck to you too. Are you planning on writing a blog? It would be great to hear how it goes. We are a bit nervous about the idea of travelling for so long with a baby and would love to know how it can work.

You will be just fine - just plan on taking it slow and roll with thepunches as they come.

Our kids are now 10 and they've been traveling since they were born. Although my husband and I did some things differently when the twins were small, we didn't let them stop us at all. We were living overseas at the time and traveled a lot - the kids went with us everywhere.

One thing you will find (depending on where you are, but we found it most places) is that the lcoal people will be enthralled with your baby. After hearing all the hype in the USA about kidnapping and such, we were reluctant to let the kids out of our sight, but eventually we relaxed. When we went into a restaurant - the waiters would take the kids to the kitchen and we could eat in peace. The kids had a GREAT time back there with all the workers and JOhn and I had a relaxing meal - win/win situation all around. STuff like that will happen a lot.

We found backpacks were much better than strollers, so never traveled with a stroller at all - it was way more hassle than it was worth.

But mostly - have fun!!
