Hi All, I got this idea after reading Mama-to-many's blog, Pilgrims Progress where she was talking about renting travel related movies.
I enjoy watching some of the Globe Trekker TV shows with my six year old. She likes the specials, such as the one looking at festivals around the world. My three year old is a big animal fan, so we often watch programmes about chimps, crocs etc etc. These programmes have the benefit of being filmed in jungles, deserts etc, so we talk about the countries involved. Both my older two like programmes about people eating insects in Thailand etc. Films I can think of at the moment - Jungle Book, Peter Pan (great panning shot of London), Oliver (and other Dickens) and Miss Potter. I'm sure those of you with older kids will have more ideas |

I don't know if you have seen the cartoon show Arthur , but it features a wonderful segment called Postcards from Buster. Buster is Arthur's best friend and travels quite a lot, mostly around North America, but some other places, too.
He also accepts Video Postcards from kids. I'm a public television nerd and think that this is a fantastic way to get younger kids interested in travel as well as fuel their curiosity for the world around them. _____________________________________________________________ 'We're going to pack our toothbrushes. That site looks great. It reminded me that the BBC has a similar programme called Barnaby Bear, who travels, mostly around the UK.
The site is http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/barnabybear/ The BBC has another programme called the Koala Brothers, which is set in outback Australia and also Mama Mirabelle which is set in the African Savannah. I'm sure that watching some of these programmes as well as looking about picture books and reading stories have helped fire their interest in the world around them. |
