I am off to Morocco in Feb for 3 weeks with my husband and daughters - one will be seven months and one nine. I've been to Morocco a few times as a young solo backpacker - last time 15 years ago!!
I suppose I'm just asking if anyone has BTDT and has any particular tips to share. We're thinking of making a trip from Marrakesh to the desert, and I would also like to return to Tafraoute, not sure of our route yet or how best to organise the journeys.
Oh - and breastfeeding in public in Morocco, I will obviously be extremely discreet, but even so, is this offensive?
Any experience with hotel rooms - is it possible to persuade hotels (cheap ones) to let you have a double/twin room with one parent sleeping in each bed with a kid? Would there be a charge for the baby and/or the child?

So how did it go?

We are planning our trip into Morocco right after we do Holy Week in Seville and am open to hearing any good ideas for kids and families!

We have found that most hotels seem to want to charge extra for children ( tho not much).Probably not for the baby, but for your older child. Maybe you will be luckier. I would think a baby bottle would seem more strange in a country like this, but do not know the answer about nursing.I would just bring a shawl to just cover the baby while nursing.My guess is you would not want your private parts to show at all in public there, but it is possible to nurse like that ( I have done it).


This is too late for you Sarenka, but I thought I would post what we ended up booking as a help to others ( as deciding on lodging in Morocco is an exhausting process...for April high season anyway).

I like the exceptional beauty, service and hospitality along with the authenticity ,price and killer terrace view and location.

Then we will go to the desert for 2 days with these people who I am absolutely thrilled with so far:

They have been fantastic with information via email.We will stay one night with a special family in the desert ( via camel ride), another night privately in their oasis, and they have set it up so my child will do a little violin concert for some school children in traditional dress. WOW!

Then we are going to eco Kasbah Ellouze for one night near the world heritage site where "Gladiators" etc was shot.

I booked it mainly to avoid that long ride between Merzouga and Marrakesh, but there are so many lovely things there that I wish I was staying longer.

We picked Riad DE L'ORANGERAIE in Marrakesh for location,beauty, and reputation for service.The indoor pool was a nice touch with a child too.

Then we picked the suite at the eco B&B Lalla Mira in the Medina at Essoauira.

I wanted to support the eco goals, plus we loooove organic food and the ancient public baths and massages there sound great.It seemed a little different and in a good location.

We will see if any of these work out as nicely as they seem...stay tuned.
