We'll be travelling throughout Oz & NZ from Oct to Jan with our two kids. A friend told me about Top 10 (NZ) and Big 4 (Oz) holiday parks. Has anyone stayed at these parks? They seem ideal as they offer everything from tent camping to self-catering units for very reasonable prices.

Comments, anyone?

i did not stay in a top ten, i merely used their toilet (which was very clean) when i was walking by after unsuccessfully seeking something else.

it was in te anau.

picture this:

a big flat lot of land, about the size you may have four or six houses on in that neighborhood. several trees. cute paved 1 lane rode widing around it. trailers lined up one next to another. very close. vans/campervans lined up very close. cabines with big sliding glass doors (seemed neat and tidy from what i could tell). whole place seemed neat and tidy but really croweded. i think id go with alternatives if availalbe lsuch as camping at bbh hostels or other campgrounds or just parking along the side of the road and calling it a night.

kidsnall, have I posted this link before? Camping in Oz It has tons of info about the national parks and facilities, and also an interesting forum. Zopa's description of the parks you mentioned makes me not want to go there, but that's just me. It sounds to me like many of the campgrounds in Oz have less facilities than what I'm used to, like running water and showers, but I'm not sure--I've not read that many descriptions yet.

We're getting excited though--the house is sold, we've moved in with G-ma, and now the planning phase is starting to get under way. Darth Mavis
