Hey WT, I will put my middle school kid on that since she does all that so well. We are trying to put together a slide show for a church group on the 10th, so will pick out some good ones.

I couldn't open your link, but I'm wondering how far you are from Rome? We saw a really neat place that was maybe an hour north of Rome called the Tarot Gardens. It was inspired by Gaudi's architecture, and this woman just went out in the middle of nowhere (as close as you can come in Italy anyway). She built a tile factory and a glass factory and then built all these amazing sculptures. I'll see if I can get you a link, b/c it was definitely a highlight of the trip for all of us.

Looks cool! Not sure if we will get to it or not this time, but we will be back to Italy before leaving ( even though we have been here twice this year and I even lived here a year when I was young).

We might end up here next year and the following year we might just focus on Italy and France in our 7 months of touring as they are so rich with great places to see.

Here is that link again:

Much higher than our usual budget, but the breathtaking view is worth it. We are enjoying a little pampering at this point.

We are near Assisi, so not too far from Rome and we head south soon to Pompeii etc. We have focused a lot on ancient civilizations this year, so don't want to miss that and I have always wanted to see Capri. If we can squeeze in your spot we will, if not , we will be back.

Good luck with your slide show! Pictures and editing is really overwhelming on this kind of a trip, We have over 25,000 pictures aleady, so I am in for lots more editing once we settle in Spain for the winter.

I look foward to seeing what your daughter comes up with as I am sure it will be great! There is nothing better than family travel!!

How can you stay so long in Europe without moving out to non-Schengen countries? DO you have special long-term visas?

My understanding with it is that each country you get 90 days. So it does not matter if you are in spain and then jump over to france for a week. You get 90 more days in spain then. Though in reality, it does not matter. Now with the EU, you never get checked at the borders and they really do not care. I do not get my entry and exit stamps checked now when I travel outside of Europe (as in leaving Europe and then come back again).

I say that, but the one exception is the UK. They have to have the toughest border in Europe.

With all due respect, I think you misunderstand. I'd be careful if I were you! And do a wee bit of research. If you discover you are right, could you post a link to your "proof" for the rest of us? Thanks.

We did apply for and got a long stay/retirement visa for Spain. It was expensive and a very big pain to get.

I know others though that have managed long term travel in Europe by adding places like Turkey, Morocco, Croatia, Eastern bloc countries, UK etc, so it certainly can be done.
