Hi
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Greece to study philosophy and learn a new language. Is anyone familiar with Greece? We have a 2 month old who is going to need a bit of physical therapy (she suffered a brain injury at birth) so I was wondering if anyone knew what the hospitals are like in other countries etc...

I know nothing about the Greek health system, but we are living and traveling abroad and I did have a baby who needed early OT , so can add some input.

I do not know the level of problem that you are dealing with, but my guess is that you would be better off postponing living abroad until you have dealt with the brain injury problems.

Usually early and good treatment makes a huge difference and it is usually free in the US for these kinds of problems ( for the first 3 years). If you handle it early, often you can rectify the problem and not have to deal with it again, but if it is not handled well, it can be a long standing problem.

Dealing with doctors etc is quite different in a foreign land and the language issue will come into play. It is hard when dealing with a medical problem in an entire different system with people using a different language ( even if you speak the language).

I wrote a post recently on our good experiences in Spain with doctors and dentists, but if I had a major problem or my child needed special therapy etc, I would do it at home if at all possible.

Unless your doctor can set you up with something specific that he/she knows about, I wouldn't chance it. Sometimes early intervention can turn things around quickly. My child started therapy at just 3months and things shifted quickly. Maybe you can solve it at home before you go?

Good luck!
