I was wondering how thich the ice gets on the summit day and would it be wise to bring ice shoes? (The ones with the spikes on the bottom) or can it be done in your typical hiking boots

I used normal hiking boots. It was bone dry when I did it (October 2007), no snow on the track at all, let alone ice.

I've heard very few people suggest you need ice boots or cramp-ons. Though it might be different if you're doing the western breach.
