Hi all,
Im just back from scotland and after climbing ben nevis in preperation for my Kilimanjaro attempt. When i got down though my knees were extremely sore. One of the more than the other but i think thats to do with the fact that i had a bad accident with it about a year ago. Anyway my question is-what support should i brin g for my knees and should they only be worn coming down??? |

You can get couple of things to help you...elastic bandages and also some simple knee braces with some elastic in it.
I wore both mine climbing up and down...especially down. It really helps. There was a time I could even run with braces but not anymore. Try walking and hiking with them..get used to them before Kili. Also, trekking poles. They will help you a lot. They keep the weight off the knees. If you have not invested in a pair..highly recommend you do. I've never needed knee braces, well, once I did. I went down 2000 meters in one day, and couldn't finish the trek.
After that experience, I use a PAIR of trekking poles. They help me up, and they help me down, especially down. One leans into them on each down step, replacing knee joints with arm and shoulder muscles, as they act like springs. One gets stronger arms, and ones kneeds are saved at least 25% of the strain, |
