Hi all,

We're flying directly to the Kili airport before our trek. Does anyone know if there are airport "improvement" fees/taxes to be paid upon arrival? If so, how much are they?

Thanks for your help!

There are no fees to be paid on arrival to or departure from JRO. The airport tax is included in your airfare similar to most other international airports.

If you are an American and do not yet have your visa, the fee is $100 per person. I don't know how much it is for other nationalities. Note that the visa line can get extremely long at the aiport.

No pictures needed, just a passport that is good for at least 6 months and cash (I'm not so sure they take any other forms of payment).

If you're applying for visas in advance (with the embassy/consulate of Tanzania in your country) then you will most likely need to include passport photos, and actually send them your passport (that was scary, mine got lost in the mail on return to me...thankfully the postal service located it).

If you apply at the airport on arrival, no, you just need your passport and cash.

On reflection, if I'd known it was so easy to get the visa at the airport I would have done so, although I had the added complication that I flew into Kenya and then caught a shuttle bus into Tanzania, so I would've had to do the visa application at the border gate.

And the border gate was quite chaotic I have to say. Some Dutch tourists that were on the bus had quite a hard time getting their visa done, because the staff member in charge of issuing them was on break at the time!
