Hi Everyone,

I'm heading out to Arusha in about 3 weeks and wanted to know if anybody has experience in renting a cell phone in Arusha. I'll be there for about 2 weeks (Climb + Safari) and want to have means for my family back home in US to be able to reach me in case of any emergency.

Thanks!

HI

I am also climbing Kili and then doing a safari -I begin December 13th. I am not sure what phone company you are with. I am with Rogers in Canada. I was with Bell but their phones do not work in Africa, whereas Rogers does. If you call your phone carrier they will be able to tell you if they have phone towers there and if your phone is compatible-they will even be able to show you where the towers are placed so you know where you will be able to get service or not. Hope this helps a bit.

Also, be sure to get a 'travel charger" for your cell phone. They are about $20 and can either be plugged into a power source-ie) at the hotel before and after Kili, or they also run on AA batteries. Handy to have especially on the mountain.

Thanks!

I'm also starting the climb on December 13th. We are taking the 7 day Rongai route. Which route are you taking?

Good luck.

I just rented an international cell phone before I left and it worked great. I was able to call home from each camp (Machame route) and even from the summit!
