Im climbing Kilimanjaro solo starting June 2nd and am looking for a group to tag along with. I am going via normal route but breaking away at the top to do a night in the crater.

You can't climb Kilimanjaro without a guide, and if you plan to spend a night in the crater, you better have your group prepare for it. It's not an easy feat - and you will need the proper gear to sleep that high on the mountain.

Hi Donovan

yes i know a guide is required. I am probably going with the Marangu Hotel. I have read only good on them, guide books and internet forums. By solo, i meant I am traveling alone, id just like some company on the way up and down. Why is crater camp so tough.
Thanks

Probably because it's about 1000m higher than the highest camp on all routes ;-)

yes maybe so, but still around the same height as everest base camp. i have added 2 extra acclimatization days into the trek to help with the altitude

And if you were going to Everest Base Camp or higher you'd be taking more extreme cold weather gear, and would therefore be more prepared for the temperatures.
