I am leaving in two days for Central America. I have a doctor appointment in the morning tomorrow and I was going to get malaria pills but I heard you can get them in CA alot cheaper. Does anyone know if getting them there is possible without a prescription too?

You don't say where you're going, but they should be readily available in the farmacias in most good-sized towns under the name aralen. Be sure to know the correct dosage if you go that route as I've heard the aralen tablets sold in CA are half the dosage of per pill as in the US so you may need to buy twice as much. Also know that the CDC warns against buying the drug overseas: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/contentMalariaDrugsPublic.aspx
Normally you have to start taking chloroquine at least a week before entering a malarious area. Happy trails! |
