I was reading through the vaccination list on this site, and saw this:

Vaccine: Yellow Fever...
How Much Is It Going to Cost: Some serious dough.
Chances: Although your chances of infection are low, if you have multiple stops on your itinerary, your chances of having to show proof of vaccination before entry into another country are high.

Has anyone ever been asked to show proof of vaccination? If I'm going from India, to China, to Japan, will this shot be necessary to fly into these countries? I'm already going to take the shote for Hep A and B, and JE, but I'd prefer not to pay out the nose for something I don't consider THAT important.

While I haven't been asked for the proof yet, it was one less thing to worry about for my trip to India - to be refused entry would have been the pits.

If you are worried about the cost, find out how much it costs in other countries where you will be before going to the first one where Yellow fever vaccination could be necessary. You might find it cheaper to get the jab on your way there. (Do I see a new BnA thread in the works?)

As far as I remember, the yellow fever vaccination is compulsory if you travel to Sub-Saharan Africa or Tropical South America, where it is endemic. I remember being asked about it on the entry forms to various Asian countries.

Unless you have been to Africa or South America recently (within 6 months, I think) you should not require the vaccination.

Here's the info from the CDC (always reliable).

In the UK it only costs £46-52 for the vaccination, so if you're by any chance flying to the UK, you might consider getting it here.

Most of Africa & South America require proof and I've known people that have been asked for proof before entry.

It is not compulsory anymore however it is recommended. Iv never been asked and i dont know anyone that has been either. But i didnt wanna risk being pulled in a third world country and having a dirty needle put in me so I did get mine done for my Africa trip....it cost me £55! and it lasts for ten years.

sooooooo, up to you if u wanna risk it or not!

I start my RTW next month and just went to the travel clinic. Since we're going to be gone almost 1 1/2 yrs we went ahead with JE as well as yellow fever, menongitis, etc. and our bill is coming of over $2000 USD...AND, we already had Hep A&B, tetanus, polio, etc. The cost is exhorbinant but we decided to go for it since at least many of the vaccines are good for quite a few years so we're covered for future trips as well.

Some countries DO require proof of yellow fever vacine and so we just got one of those yellow travel vaccine cards from our travel clinic and they fill out everything you've been innoculated for.
