Hi everyone! i'm embarking on a RTW trip next year with my boyfriend and i'm having a hard time finding an insurance company that's reasonably priced. Any suggestions for Canadian citizens looking for coverage?

Well, I have bought travel insurance from a number of places and checked out many more, here are some of the places I have used or looked at...

http://www.insurance4backpackers.com/ - I have used this company on occasion because they are not dependant on your residency, which was a bonus for me because I was moving around a lot with two passports.

http://www.insurance-canada.ca/consproducts/travel-insurance-backpacker/travel-insurance-backpacker.php - a directory of backpacker insurance companies for Canadians.

If the first isn't to your liking, the second can point you in the right direction. I have noted out of all of the policies I have bought over the years, some have been pretty useless on reflection, so read the fine print, and don't get sold something extra you'll never use. Its great when they cover personal belongings up to $2500, but useless if its restricted to something like "only if secured in the trunk of your car" or "not if locked in an unattended hotel room". I laughed at spending money on a few of those.

Knock on wood, I've never had to claim. I would look for a good health policy and something that will keep you moving if you have trouble, and nothing more.

Hope your trip goes well.

Me too!

I'm currently working in a job where med coverage in China is free, but once I leave on Vacation, I'm not covered.

I'm set on Thailand, but will need to find new insurance coverage. Suggestions? I'm looking at Travelex online. Don't know if I should jump on it or not.
