hey,
i'm on a bunch of different kinds of asthma medications (4 inhalers and an oral medication). i'm planning on taking a 3 month trip around europe and was wondering what i should do about medicine? should i bring a three month supply (12 innhalers!!!) or somehow (how?) have someone mail me back-up medicine or see if my dr. can reduce my meds (that's only possible if i can breathe normally). i want to be traveling somewhat light. also, do you need any sort of prescription or anything as proof to, i dont know what, someone told me i need proof.

thanks,
cherie

Why don't you take some prescriptions and then buy what you need in pharmacies in Europe?

For "proof" everyone suggests that you keep your drugs in the original containers, but inhalers pack so much more easily if you take them out of the box they come from the pharmacy in.

What my husband's doing (he's taking 6 months of inhalers on our trip - except the albuterol which you can get OTC pretty much everywhere) is keeping one of each type of inhaler in the box that has the label from the pharmacy on it and then taking the others out of their boxes. I suppose taking a copy of all your prescriptions would accomplish the same thing.

You could talk to your doctor about it - maybe he/she can help you find out if you are able to fill an American prescription in Europe or if some of your medicines are available over the counter there. Or if they're available at all over there.

If it were me, though, and it was a life-saving medicine, I'd take the whole 3 month supply with.

sounds good. i'm not sure if i can use my health plan/prescription card in europe but i will check. breathing is very important, and i will probably end up carrying around everything. i may speak to my dr abt changing my meds during my trip, we'll see. thanks.
