Just wondering if any of you have ever had a filling or crown fall out of your tooth while travelling and what you did about it? I assuming you can try and find a dentist if you're in a big city or somewhere where there's one readily available, but what about in more remote places or when you're on the go?

thanks!

Not exactly, but we have run into a few dental problems while over seas. We have found good dentists in rural Spain and also found one in Croatia recently. I always like personal experience when asking, as I am a dental chicken and want a gentle dentist.

My husband had a ton of dental work done in Spain and they did a great job and it was super cheap. I thought I was going to need a root canal, but so far it has been fine with the treatments I have gotten from 2 different dentists in Spain almost a year ago.

There is ALWAYS a possibility to have a dental or medical emergency when you are in the middle of no where. We are on a multi year trip around the world with a young child, so I always think about this in places like the middle of the Sahara desert. BUT chances are really against it I would think if you take care of things when you are in locations that you can.

Health care in Europe and much of the world is MUCH cheaper and just as good as the U.S.

Ask local people that you get to know for recommendations. People usually are very helpful and will lead you to the right person.

PS I have been to doctors for emergencies in rural UK, a Rhodes hospital, two dentists in rural Spain ( one was from Denmark, the other from Argentina and both spoke English and were good which is what I wanted) , and a dentist in Croatia.

ALL were very good experiences and super cheap ( the emergency room in Greece that I went for chest pains and they did an EKG....was FREE).

I have the worst teeth of anyone I know so getting dental work on the road is normal for me now. Got three fillings in the foothills of the Himalayas in India last year and got some root canals done in Peru a month ago. Going to have to get crowns in Ecuador next. It`s never bothered me where I get work done, because I know I can`t afford it in Ireland. The Indian fillings didn`t last long but they kept me out of pain for a while.
