Sean and I recently did a 26 day road trip down to California visiting college campuses. We had a very busy scehedule and in one 7 day period we visited 6 campuses, setting up a booth, putting up flyers and talking to people about independent travel.

This kind of schedule combined with the fact we eating, sleeping at times we were not used to mean't we were more likely to get sick. Realising this we tried to hit Jamba Juice, a company founded in San Luis Obispo that makes healthy shakes. These things had 2100% daily vitamin C and to top them off we would each have a 2oz shot of wheat grass juice which contains as much vitamins as 5 lbs of raw vegetables.

The shakes taste great and they seemd to keep us moving ( in more ways than one ).

What's your opinion this strategy for helping healthy on the road?

Smoothies are tasty, though not exactly cost effective for the budget traveller, right? At $4-5/drink, even though they are giant, it seems almost like a waste of cash. What about just buying fruits and veggies and munching that throughout the day? I think that may be healthier than a shake on the go, keep your metabolism going and all that.

Besides, those things are so good I always give myself cold headaches coz I drink them too fast. Ouch.

also, Jamba Juice practices "forced coporate frivolity." i had a friend who worked there and her boss would make them dance around ever hour on the twenty minutes. now, i'm all for dancing at work, but it sees a little creepy to have to!

They are a bit expensive...but when in a rush - a meal in and of themselves...I also get those cold headaches when I pound 'em too hard.

The bit about the dancing is a bit weird...the only thing we make people do when they work for BootsnAll is travel.

I'm a fan of the Jamba Juice to although I often find their half-hearted shouting of "Jamba!" after an order a little less than genuine.

Kind of like being forced to wear "flair"...

I can't ever remember someone yelling "jamba" whnever I bought one...maybe that is because when I got - it is usually before 7 a.m.
