Hellllllo
I know there was just a post about vaccines- but I cant seem to find any decent websites about what vaccines I should or possibly NEED to get to travel through mexico, central and south america in April/May. I asked my doctor but she directed me to an office I couldnt find. Gah! Anyone have any advice? Are there vaccines that are mandatory? Or all they all suggestive? What ones would be a good idea? Im thinking typhoid/malaria/yellow fever and rabies would be sufficient... |

Hey Lucy,
Check out the CDC website and choose a region. It will have more info about vaccinations to get. Also, the World Health Organization has info, country by country, on health issues and concerns. Some things to consider are regions you'll be in - malaria regions. Some areas are resistent to certain drugs that are used elsewhere. For example, in Belize, I took Chloroquine. Much of the malaria areas in the world are now resistent to Chloroquine; so for Peru, I had to take Doxycyclen. If you're travelling overland in South America, or will be in the jungles, get a Yellow Fever shot. You may need proof of it when crossing borders (I was never asked for proof). Better safe than sorry tho, as yellow fever is pretty evil. Typhoid is a good one to have (I took a pill), Hepatitis A and B are good as well. I would skip the rabies shot. Try a travel clinic in your area...they'll have more info than a general practitioner. |
