Greetings All,

I am about 5 days away from 3 month jaunt to S.E. Asia and I have been runnin around taking care of visa photos, clothing requirements and general pharmaceutical needs.

but the one thing I just thought of now is, Travel Insurance.

what are your experiences and thoughts?

do you feel its worth the money to spend it on insurance?

I wanna know what guys have to say.

Question:
Have you or did you purchase travel insurance, on an upcoming and/or completed trip?

Choices:
Yes.....a definite necessity, a must!
No....whats gonna happen? You'll be fine!

i hear good things about worldnomads. i used it once. nothing happened, thankfully.. but it didn't cost me too much. so, might as well, right? one of the things that are better to have and not need, than need and not have.

. . .

I think travel medical insurance is a must. Cancellation/Interruption I think depends on you..how tight your finances are, and how likely you are to come home (like, if your brother's wife's uncle dies, will you need to attend the funeral?). General "stuff" insurance definately seems wasteful, as it adds a lot to the cost, has small payouts and lots of restrictions. Insure expensive items separately, but don't bother with general theft insurance.

Hmmm.. I checked out worldnomads, and it seems fairly cheap to buy insurance, but I'm still undecided. Please keep posting your opinions on this! (By the way I'll be headed to Central America in case that influences opinions on the necessity of insurance.)

I agree with 2wanderers that travel insurance is a must. It's basically the only health insurance I have right now. While I could afford to pay out-of-pocket for minor things, I don't know what I'd do if something serious goes wrong. Having the travel insurance gives me peace of mind.

I bought World Nomads for my trip. It was only $40 a month, basically $1 a day. Well worth the price in my opinion. And it does trip cancellation and personal belongings as well. Just make sure to read the fine print. They won't pay out if you put yourself or your belongings in needless harm.

My personal opinion, if you can afford to travel you can afford to have/maintain medical insurance.
