My husband & I are getting ready to embark on our RTW and have been hearing about malaria pills lessoning the effects of BC pills. Anyone have any knowledge/ experience on this subject. I do, of course, have an appt. to see my OB/GYN as well as visit a travel clinic in the next couple weeks but wanted to see if any members have any thoughts on the subject.

It is well accepted that antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. One of the most common anti-malarials is just an antibiotic ( doxycycline ) so you're certainly not worried for nothing. Definitely discuss it with your doctor(s) because there might be other options that would be better.

I can only offer my experience. We were prescribed Larium (dont know how popular it is these days because of side effects but we didnt have any aside from wild dreams). I took Larium for about 5 months and was on birth control - it worked fine. When I tried to get pregnant, it happened very quickly...so my unprofessional opinion is that Larium had did not effect the potency of the pill.
