This question is mostly addressed to other Canadians who have done a 365+ day RTW and bought medical insurance. Although, any advice is certainly welcome! We are planning on being gone for 28 months.

My problem is that all insurance companies that I've found on the internet have duration limitation associated to provincial health care limits. In Ontario it's 212 days and Quebec it's 187 days allowed outside of the country in a calendar year. We are obviously looking to be gone for more than that time. What insurance company did you finally buy with and what did you do with provincial time limit?

We don't need travel insurance (trip cancellation/delays and baggage delays/loss) as that is covered by our credit card.

I am going through this same problem. You'll probably want to buy full medical coverage regardless of provincial coverage, as they don't cover very much of the expense.

In my case, I'm hoping that the Quebec government isn't lying about the "calendar year" stipulation. I'll be gone approx. 275 days in total, but never more than 150 in a single calendar year (I'm leaving Aug 1, returning in May). So I shouldn't lose my coverage, if the web site is to be believed.

Does your credit card company offer medical insurance?

You might try World Nomads, they seem to have decent (if a tad expensive) coverage for Canada.
