Well, I guess I wouldn't be looking forward to a 10 hour flight, if that's your question. That seems like an easy one.Smile

If you're looking for suggestions, you could try some sort of donut-type pillow maybe to sit on? If you're feeling extra persuasive you could try to convince the airline you need to ride in first class due to your medical condition.

...it sounds like you don't have time for surgery & recouperation before you go.... so I'd just load up on painkillers & booze on the flight, or knock yourself out with some vallium....

Yes it's a pain in the arse but you'll deal with it !

Is it a cyst at the bottom of your tailbone called a polynoidal cyst? If so, just get some serious painkillers for the long hauls. It won't kill you. Smile At least that's what my doc said!

hey there travelgirl -
That's no fun. Having known people who've had them (including yours truly) I feel for ya. What you can do is a couple of things.
You can take a hot compress with you. One of those therma care straps. Also take an anti-inflamitory such as i.b.profin. If you can get your hands on painkillers I say do so. Or, down a large volume of alchohol...just kidding.
When they do the surgery make sure they remove all the affected area or it can come back again and again and again. It leaves a scar but it's better then the pain you get from the cyst, which really is one of the worst pains in history. Also wear loose baggy pants that won't rub the effected area.

And who knows, maybe if you tell the stewards that you have such a pain they'll do everything to make you feel better. Maybe even a free upgrade? Cool

thanks soooo much prisa! its comforting to know that there is a fellow p.c. sufferer who is a traveler and knows where i am coming from. i will try the hot compress thing and ibprofen.. doubt the painkillers though cuz so far the docs havent seemed to be very proactive about treating my pain or the entire thing for that matter.. lookes like its going to be a wiating game for me. but thanks for all the advice!

Not to discourage you, but also keep in mind that you are bound to take many long bus/train/taxi/donkey rides that will probably be more uncomfortable than your plane. Still go if you think you can, but stock up on enough supplies for these events as well.

i know that a plane is not the most uncomfortable thing in the world. the reason the plane was such an issue was how long the flight is... but i hope to have to this taken care of before i go on any more trips.. after the one i am taking on spring break that is! its not the end of the world.. its just no fun.. especially when its an everyday thing.

I had a pinched nerve/sciatica thing bugging me for a year and a half and plane flights were agony by the end and I'd get off a plane limping. The only thing I found that helped were extra strength pain killers like Celebrex. It really was almost miraculous how it stopped the pain. So if you can get a prescription for something like that I'd recommend it, unless you're an addictive personality that is.
You could also charm your way into business class and lie flat out in one of those seats Smile

Dang girl Smile I think you can do it on charm alone, but if you want to go the extra mile for personal reasons... hahaha.
