I want to cry!

I leave two weeks from today and all week I've been battling a sore right foot. It's not getting better. I can't get an appointment to see a doctor until next Monday and I don't know what to do.

I'll be going on the trip no matter what, but what will I do if it hurts to walk?

Why don't you go to a ER instead of waiting for the doctor appointment? Keep the doctor appointment anyway, but go to the ER right away to get ahead.

You'll be fine, don't worry. I always have last minute stuff right before trips, the most remarkable being crashing my car (it was total loss of the car / overnight in the ER sort of thing) a week before my 3 month in Europe thing. I did delay the trip in one week to check the knee properly, but in the end I still had bandages when I left. You just have to take it a bit slower in the beginning if it's still sore.

Are you going with medical insurance? Cause if you're out and it's stilol hurting, you can check it while abroad. Insurances don't cover pre existing stuff, but you can always tell them it just happened...

I'm going to rest it the next two days and see how it goes. If it's no better I'll go to the ER. I just don't want to end up sitting there for 7 hours like I did last time. A sore foot puts you near the bottom of the emergency room ladder so you end up last.

I will have medical coverage while I'm there. I'll go if I think I need it. I also have a good ankle brace that I'll pack.

Someone told me sounds like tendonitis or something that comes from lacing your shoes too tight.

Dunno about either of those, but the symptoms do sound like them.

Are you taking advil? Icing it up?

99% of the time the doc says, "Nothing we can do for you, ice it and take some advil!" Its the other 1% that makes you go to the doctor...

Hope it gets to feeling better... Cool

I put ice on it for the first time today. I had been using heat and rest. The ice hurt, but it's been feeling better since then. I've also been using Watkings medicated ointment and that's been helping along with the Advil.

My calf and shin are starting to get sore. Not sure if it's from inactivity or what.

The appointment is next Monday. Less than a week before I leave.

Rest and Advil and loose sneakers seem to be working.

my boss has.. plantar fascitis? something like that. she said it feels like you're stepping on something sharp; is that what you're experiencing? she has to wear a specific type of shoe whenever it acts up. i'll ask her about it when i work next.

has it gotteny any better, at least?

It doesn't feel like I'm stepping on something sharp, it doesn't hurt with every step either. It's a rather odd feeling. More like a muscle spasm than anything else. With twinges rather than sharp pain.

It has improved since the weekend. I'm keeping with the Anti-inflamatories and I ice it every night for a while. I still have about 10 days before I leave for it to improve further. Wish me luck!

Thanks Mina Smile

Funny, but I see your Avatar and it makes me think of Lord of the Rings. I could use a little Longbottom Leaf..maybe some King's Foil. Big Grin

I bet my foot would be feeling alot better after that.

Hmm....but that only makes sense if you've read the books.

I hope it gets better, Libby. I would see a doctor here first, unless you're going to:

India
Cuba
Europe

or anywhere the doctors know what they're doing. Mexico is not one of those countries, unless you demand a specialist, and even then its scary. A friend of mine had a hurt ankle, and a 'specialist' had to look at it. Result, a walking cast and no cure. He finally went home and found out it was a more or less serious fracture that had to be kept off of at all costs. They had to re-break it.

oh you havent tried the "halflings' weed" yet Libby?? self-medication girlie!!

and you arent far-off with the Finnish/LOTR connection, Tolkein was very influenced by Finnish epic... wouldnt be too surprising if Tove Jansson borrowed a bit of that lore herself, my man Snufkin there is my travelling hero Smile

anyway, feeling better yet?
